Breakthrough in "Thermal Insulation Coat" for Superconducting Cables! Adiabatic Efficiency of Liquid Nitrogen Cooling Layer Reaches 99.8%

At the Shanghai Lingang Superconducting Industrial Park, the new adiabatic auxiliary material developed by Shanghai Superconductor Co., Ltd. provides "temperature locking" for superconducting cables. Composed of multiple layers of vacuum aluminized film and glass fiber, this material has an adiabatic efficiency of 99.8%, which can stably maintain the liquid nitrogen temperature (-196℃) inside the cable for more than 6 months.

"Previously, the adiabatic layer required liquid nitrogen replenishment once a month, but now it only needs replenishment once every six months," said Zhang Lei, the technical director. This auxiliary material has been applied in the Shanghai Zhangjiang Superconducting Cable Demonstration Project, reducing the cable operation energy consumption by 30%.
